A complete opposite solution to my approach, he has removed it completely creating more room in the engine bay (prehaps to fit his new propex heater???). Its all been back filled with new flat plate including the fire wall which is curved for the old panel.

So having had 4 or 5 VW badges stolen off of my bus, Ive come to this decision. Not sure its the best choice, but i plan on making an olive green canvas cover with a VW military style stencil on it.
