Nice wheels

Got a fantastic deal on a set of original early bay window wheels (infact they were a steal)! No not really they do look lovely, would need a set of adapters and two wide 5 15 rears and two narrow 5 14s for the front, in chrome with dome caps both front and rear!

Obsessive Canalboat Disorder Pt. III

It's done! I decided not to go with 'Wey' in the end, as it was too large to travel the inland waterways to any great extent. I decide to opt for the slightly smaller barge at Trent Bridge...

And I get all that steel as well! Plenty for a replacement chassis for a bus! Although I might weigh it in, as I had to pay VAT on the auction price!

What a sexy bow:-

The inside is looking a bit rusty but some good plating and a few coats of bitchumin will sort her out:-

Next step is to get the thing moved to the marina and lifted onto the hard standing. Then the real work can begin! Watch this space ;)

Any suggestions for a name?

Oh, and this is the type of engine/generator I'm going to install...

Any ideas what type of engine it is? Answers on a postard, please.

here she is, as i said not much too look at at the moment, but theres alot of potential here, just a nice blank canvas for us to make a mark on ( without the guilt of tearing up an original westfalia ) so its just a waiting game for a bit, but i am off to get a t25 engine hatch and surround to put in the back, and ive done a deal on the wheels, so two very small parts in a big project. also anyone up for the leeds do on the 15th of aug??

Better than a subaru engine?

I think so, so does Jacob. Just look at that super charger it was bolted down then secured with extra staps to allow it to blow up!!!!! safely!!! 0-60=1 sec V8 chevey

Disaster for cans

It turns out the the majority of the inner can is Titanium........we cannot weld stainless to titanium....one has a diaganal crystal the othe is horizontal or something........anyway it keeps cracking on the tack welds so can not be welded as is!!! Chris now has a plan to machine two huge inner stainless end caps that will replace the Titanium ones, this can then be welded to the tee piece and then they can be re bolted/riveted to the main body of the can. This is a total disaster as my Thunderbird silencer is falling to pieces after a year again!! So i will have to try to wrap some steel around the old silencer and mig it again............? What a shame, was so looking forward to hearing the sound!!! All good things come to those who wait!!!

Obsessive Canal Boat Disorder Pt. II

Took a trip out over to Trent Bridge with my old man this afternoon to look at a hopper:-
Then we ended up meeting the Fred Dibnar of the rivers (A.K.A. 'Tony')! He was waiting for the police to show up as someone nicked his pliers last night.

After the cops had finished dusting for prints, he offered to show us a couple of his boats at Holme Lock on the trent nr. Nottingham. Saw an awesome project. Her name is Wey and would be a palace!

The inside is huge! Space for two floors and an engine room / wheel house at the rear. Wouldn't get down any canals but would cruise the main rivers no problem.

Tony then showed me a Bucket Dredger he was stripping down for spares and offer me the hull when it was done. Talked me through all the workings...

I'm thinking about it, but it's going to take a good 6 months to remove all the engine and workings from this beast! Reckon I'll get started on Wey ASAP...
OCDP1: Can you bring the welder upto Holme Lock after you've done with Lucille? ;) It's moored up right by the National Water Sports Centre:-

R1 camper cans!!

Mean while over at Pikes place......a new stainless
steel two branch has been created.
Just a taster, i plan to run it without the bricks!!!
This is without the ally end caps on.

Happiness in the form of steel

How much filler was on the front yes 1 tonne. Quite a lot of dentage to front lower panel.

Right inner valance fully welded and then painted, off cut offered top inside of lower skin, new cut line marked out.

Cut and then spot welded and ground back.

More spot welds and a careful touch with the air grinder.........................and things are looking
good........................
Just a skim of filler will do this time!!!
This should put a smile on the old fella!!

Flappage a la muddage !

Never thought mud flaps would be an arse to fit BUT when you've got one rear wheel arch completely different to the other one (previous repair... a good one mind you) then it makes things a bit trickier...

Speaker possibilities... ?

sounds like a long day on the '68! nice work on the interior Ben looks stock still even though it's modded. yeah I reckon go for that oldy-worldy speaker look... here's a few possiblities for you...

Elcies developing interior

new ply wood behind driver & passenger seats, new fridge cabinet to old style but improved complete with the original devon folding cooker & grill, restored jump seat behind passenger.

extra chest seat to be upholstered to blend with the rock'n'roll seat/bed, portaloo and gas + storage (not totally sure about using as toilet box....? could alternativley be a food/blanket box, need to make decision asap!!!)
Also rebuilt Devon overlocker in ply..........now no speakers...........another dilemma...looks very retro without..............but i love my tunes!! Could do a retro wireless radio scroll saw cut pattern with speakers hidden behind???? What pattern....not vw.....the rising sun?? Anyway not finished but looking much better for it!!

a change in direction

A happy day for Lucielle!! The sun was shining and Rumplestiltstig was busy with the tools.

Cleaned and straightened this body for offering, lots of checking, a good dose of seam sealer, and she was ready for a new inner valance.

New seam weld.........nice and clean.

new inner valance spots along top with 3 spots on chassis bracket plus two small seam welds on edge to give proper strength............an dont forget Darren all of these welds want painting with seam sealer.

Crazy mad men cutting out everything in sight!! no one seems to sell this piece........will have to make something up!!

finally able to offer up the front valance..................but ran out of time as had to collect kids from school..............but a good day generally.............other than how much filler is on your lower front panel...????? more damage that will need panel beating before the repair panel goes on!!!!
