One step T3....


Old 1.6 diesel engine out. Old style T4 gear box with upper mounting for starter is cool..

knackered crank shaft pulley locator slot, leads to.............
Siezed valves, hammered pistons, cracked heads.....................mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

But help is at hand from a solid 1.9 turbo diesel Polo...........im not sure the polo was very happy at as it prooved hard work after David Rs birthday party the night before....but true to for two amatuers (B & Phill) sorted it out!!

Por poor Polo......of to the scrap yard for you!!! Good lump needs Head gaskets timing belts etc swaping a combination of parts around from the original T3 diesel , plus some custom mods.......................
OUT, OUT, OUT!!!!
Need advice here, is the oil in the coolant system more likley to be from a faile head gasket or the oil filter cooler combo.......this part seemed to leak out more oil than most other areas of the system???

  1. Not sure how these work, but If the oil cooler had a load of oil in the water system then I'd find some advice from a local diesel garage.

    You don't want to get this puppy back in, only to find it knackered due to a new oil cooler being required :{

  2. hmm sage advice, worth investigating further while the engine is out... but well played Ben and Phil, the T25 will be forever thankful!!

  3. Look what i just read on brickyard.com: Diesel engine. Upon removal of expansion tank cap you find oil in the coolant, first thoughts are generally to suspect a head gasket problem but usually the cause is the oil cooler that is fitted between the oil filter and the oil filter head. The oil cooler is a small heat exchanger, and they corrode inside letting the higher pressure oil leak into the coolant. The remedy is to fit a new oil cooler and completely flush out the cooling system.
