Vibrating Syncro and Drive shaft velocity

As JimBob pointed out last weekend, we got significant vibration coming into the SIKA cab at 35 to 40mph... I could just get s decent sterio system, but this is worrying if left unsorted as can damage diffs, etc... Found a great video via the Samba.com:-

But first thing is to get the wheels balanced, hubs and disks checked, rubber mounts checked on the  engine. front diff and gearbox, then drop the shaft out and take it for a spin to see if it is the shaft at fault.

If it's no longer vibrating with the shaft out, could still be the half shafts or CV joints at the front (as they may only vibrate under torque). Swings and blumin roundaboooots! but at least I understand drive shaft alignment and the importance of high speed balancing of the shaft (greater than 2,500 RPM!)

Oh and it turns out that VW didn't fit the rubber bush to the syncro pickup drive shafts as they didn't really give a shit about noise and vibrations for the working classes!!! Which means I can't get mine re-coned without paying over £240 surcharge, ouch!

Once vibrartions sorted I need to do the Viscous Coupling to stop it wearing out all the diff and CVs! https://youtu.be/slujJmXoSAo

  1. Gosh that man does not like his credit card! Reminds me of the cardboard and peg on your bmx when you where a kid to make it sound like a motorbike.

CV joints and drive shafts are a right pain!

Get your Viscous coupling sorted and stop eating CV Joints!
