Beetles really are very airtight! chuck one in a lake and it'll take ages to sink, compared to modern rubbish!
Scrapheap challenge used one for a submarine once! they sank it then pumped air down into it and kept a person comfortable with plenty of air - travelled the length of a swimming pool :)

And then they all drowned,as they had forgot about rust holes.Only joking i also watched scrapheap challenge beetle.
