Plates!

Got stopped by the Po-lice today for my number plates!!!

Asking what year was she registered I knew I was in trouble!

Apparently the DVLA and Po-lice are cracking down on numberplate irregularities and had great joy in explaining that I had to take my classic aluminium plates and chuck them for lovley crappy plastic shit!!!

I have checked the law and the font is correct so it just has to be black ally, with a reflective paint....mmmmmmmm......I must find a way of moding the classic ally plates to conform....??

Texas Splitscreen Massacre - Bus Stopover 2009

Another untidy peice of vw history that tickled us! you can be as rude as you like about it, the owner won't care, apparently he was eaten by bears in the woods after running from the po-lice!

TinCan Ceramix & Dusty Daz's delights...

Well done all those with stalls! hope you made your pitch money back!!

More fire buses

As a basic comparison to what we have near to Cambridge, this one is at Kieft en Klock in Holland for £9500, almost exact in spec other than a lovely 2,0ltr engine to buzz along in.

Overtons Coachworks

I saw Danny today, his business is doing a new service called "Hot zinc coating" where they actually spray a zinc powder through a flame to melt it then it sticks to the steel....the next best thing to zinc plating.....think of it as dipping your chassis, or boat into moulten liquid zinc!!!!
They are also now doing a stainless bead blasting service as well now....mmmmm? Any one interested????

Teflon Coating and US Bargains!

I was down at East Midlands Coatings last week to get some Zinga paint for my barge (Checkout the new blog: http://hopper11conversion.blgspot.com )

Anyhoo, the owner was intrigued about my love for rusty metal and said that if we need anything teflon coated he can do it for peanuts... i.e. about £25 to £30 per wheel! Was thinking of contacting the magazines and VW resellers to try and re-sell their service! We could charge people £50 per wheel and make a buck or two! Plenty of old knackered wheels around that we could recon! I'm giving him mine to do. Not sure if a bumper will fit in his oven, tho. Maybe we could get a whole van done!!?!?! ;) Then there's door handles, mirrors, etc... all can be cleaned up and coated for not too much cash!

Oh, and check this puppy out: http://houston.kijiji.com/c-ViewAd?AdId=133597825 what a bargain! Shame about the shipping cost ;(

Oil leaks.....part 456

Finally dropped my engine out this weekend to sort out numerous problems:
Threaded spark plug, Flywheel oil seal, Oil gallery plug seal, clean pressure plate & flywheel, new oil fiter etc. being the main elements.
New parts....Kush Lock uprated clutch plate.

Noticed a hairline fracture on the older 1&2 heads just between inlet and exhaust valves......I believe this damage acured when i f**ked the other head up!! Not a problem at the present!! helicoiled the spark plug thread works a treat.
Engine back in!! all connections done.

Finally NO OIL!!!!!

Zinc Chassis

Loads of cleaning achieved along with an first coat of zinc primer.
Wow, I got arch eye vfrom this picture!!!
Solid chassis

Snowy's progress

Big shout out to the Massive!....Fat Bob that is and of course the usual suspects Swiss Baby and OCD.
Snowy making slow but steady progress now a new inner valance courtesy of some careful salvage from a spare bus that was lying around...a bit of Zinc inhalation never hurt anyone!
.............a new outer and a rear valance complete the setup...

Oh Ruby...

She's got a lot of rot under all that stone chip! Got some angle braces welded in, then chopped out the nasty remains of the heater chanel.

I've had to order a backing plate for the rear crossmember / heater chanel.

So the floor pan and rear crossmember had to go, so I can leaver up the floor to the chanel...

Waiting for the backing plate to come so I can chop out the last of the rot!

It will have to be plates for the wheel arch for now, as there isn't quite enough to warrant a new wheel arch (phew!).

I want a new beam like Gary's now! ;)
